Letter from Drake and Helen Jordan

May 26

Roger;

You asked in a recent Point Reyes Light for stories, anecdotes, etc., about Russ. Here are a couple:

We first met Russ when he was working for Van Dusen (sic), as a leather worker! We had him make a pair of clunky sandals for Helen, which she wasn't too fond of, because they were too heavy and thick. After that, every time he saw Helen wearing the sandals, he would shake his head apologetically. He did some tree work for us a couple of times, usually in exchange for graphic work (his logo for example) The last time was a big pine tree lifting up a corner of my studio. He came by, cut the tree down, but didn't have time to cut it up into "discs" for disposal or for firewood. The log sat there for several months, until I photographed a kit fox sitting on the stump. Helen took one of the prints and made it into a postcard, wrote a note on it and mailed it to Russ. The stump and the logs were gone in a few days!

The last time we talked was a rather heated argument over some local issue, Which he prefaced and ended with "I love you guys, but".

We were very saddened to read of his death, and, even though we haven't

seen him for years, there's a "void" in our lives nonetheless.

Helen always called him a "Charming Rogue or Rascal" and he truly was.

Our deepest sympathy for Pamela Jane.
